Letter to Incoming Freshmen

McKean Highlander Football
             Michael Ryan – Head Coach

                    ONE BLOOD
Dear Incoming Player and Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the McKean Football Family. I am dedicated to making sure that you have a great four year experience while playing football here at McKean. We have an excellent athletic and academic tradition here and we work very hard to ensure that these traditions continue.

I hope that this letter finds your family in good health and your child in good academic standing. We stress academics in our football program and I will do whatever I can to help your child succeed both academically and athletically at McKean.

I am providing you with a lot of information in this packet. When players report on August 15th a more detailed schedule will be given to them in regards to their practice times leading up to the start of the school year. Basically, our freshman team practices on their own and with their own coaching staff. Mr. Steve Wasylyszyn and Mr. Ryan Hawthorne are our Co-Head Freshmen Coaches and I know they are eager to get started. I encourage you to attend our Strength and Conditioning Program to ready yourselves for the upcoming season. It is possible that I may ask some new freshman to practice with the Varsity and JV teams so you must be ready. It is essential that you come into preseason already in shape and ready to work. I also strongly recommend that you attend a football camp over the summer to work on technique and skills that you will need to be successful at the high school level. I have enclosed registration forms for Blue Chip Camp. If this does not work with your schedule please contact me about other camps in the region.

The Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game will be held on June, 23rd at the U of D. This year’s game marks the 52nd Anniversary of this classic fundraiser. Our Blue Gold Committee at McKean rose over $1,500 this year for the DFRC. Please come and support the DFRC and our own All- State player Adam Hawthorne who will be playing for the Blue Squad!

      Our summer strength and conditioning program begins June 18th and I expect to see all incoming freshman there 3-4 days a week. This program is critical in ensuring that our players come into preseason camp in shape and ready to work.

       Again, I am providing you with a large amount of information at this time. I ask that you read it carefully and review it with your son and plan your summer activities accordingly. Players are not expected to miss any part of preseason camp (starting August 15th) due to family vacations. A reminder that all players must have a valid physical and proper paperwork completed before they can participate in any practices or games.

      Feel free to call me at anytime to discuss the information provided. I can be reached at the following numbers:

I hope that you have a fun and relaxing summer and I’ll see you in the weight room. And remember, YOU are the future of McKean Football!!!!

Sincerely,
Coach Ryan

Letter to Returning Players

Dear Player and Parents;

      I hope this letter finds your family in good health and all of our players in good academic standing. Final report cards have been sent home and I hope that all players and parents have taken the proper steps to ensure athletic eligibility for the fall sports season. It is important that you understand the rules regarding athletic eligibility and that if your child needs to attend summer school that they register as soon as possible to ensure a seat in the class. Please contact me or your child’s counselor with any questions. In the McKean Football Program academics are of the utmost importance. I ask that you work closely with your child to ensure that they are not only keeping up with their studies but striving for academic excellence.

      Now that the spring sports season is complete I can feel the excitement brewing in the entire McKean Football Family. Our 2007 schedule will have some new faces on it this year. I have provided a copy of the schedules for you to look at and plan your days. The past five seasons have been an incredible growing experience for the McKean Football Family. The 2006 season was a successful one but it has left me and the returning players hungry for more. Our expectations for the upcoming season our high and our goals are lofty. We must continue our program’s growth into next year. We have lost many seniors due to graduation so we will be seeing many new faces on the Varsity playing field. You will also be seeing many new faces on the sidelines. I will be announcing the new additions to our staff in the coming months but I can tell you this…you won’t be disappointed with the new staff!!!!

      In order for us to reach our goals we must have an incredible off-season work ethic. I strongly believe that champions are made in the off-season and that in order for us to win our players must be committed to attending our strength and conditioning program four days a week. Our workouts will be back at McKean this summer. Our designated hours are 4-6pm Monday-Thursday. SUMMER CONDITIONING STARTS JUNE 18TH. I encourage all players to attend during these hours. Please encourage your child to work out with his teammates and help them to make sure that their summer employment schedule does not interfere with their workouts. I also strongly encourage you to send your child to an off-season football camp. I have provided this information to your child at a team meeting prior to the end of school. Please let me know if you need more information. Go to www.delbluechipfootball.com for more camp info.
